WhO WE ARE

A group of independent practitioners with over 75 years of combined experience, the counselors at Adult & Child Counseling Service have served clients in the Helena area by providing the help they need to improve their lives. We provide a comprehensive array of counseling services, designed to help people maximize their potential.

William Evans, LCSW, LMFT

Bill established Adult and Child Counseling Service, a private practice of independent therapists, in 1985. His special interests are: Anger Management, Couple Therapy and working with clients who are suffering with depression and anxiety. He works with families and the elderly. Bill holds a MA degree from the University of Chicago and MSW degree from the University of Denver. He is a licensed clinical social worker and licensed marriage and family therapist. He was previously director of the mental health center in Helena. He also taught courses in the Sociology and Social Work Department at Carroll
College. He does Critical Incident Stress Debriefing for Lewis & Clark County First Responders. Bill has held a number of statewide and national positions with the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and was honored with NASW's Social Worker of the year for his early legislative work on licensing of social workers in the state of
Montana.

Jessica Hayes-Cook, LCPC

Jessica is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who has worked in the mental health field for over 10 years. She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Health and Human Development and has a Master’s Degree from Capella University in Mental Health Counseling. Jessica worked for two years in Kodiak, Alaska working with the CSCT school mental health population and in several remote Native villages. In this position, she also did on call crisis work with the local hospital. Jessica also has worked for Shodair Children’s Hospital and Intermountain Children’s Home.


Jessica offers an eclectic therapeutic approach to fit each client. She has experience utilizing play therapy in treating children struggling with emotional issues. She also utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused-brief therapy, and a client centered approach to treat a variety of mental health issues. She is currently working towards her certification as an certified eating disorder specialist.


Jessica offers a flexible schedule for appointments including some evening appointments and accepts most insurance plans.



Kathleen Curtis, LCPC

Kathleen "Kat" Curtis has been a licensed clinical professional counselor/psychotherapist in Montana for 20 years. She also has 45 years of experience as a teacher, school counselor and school psychologist in public, private, gifted and special education. Kat's private practice is called Creative Self-Empowerment, which is a therapeutic approach incorporating creative modalities such as art, dance/movement, drama, music, storytelling, and writing. Kat is able to work with adults, children, and groups, and is able to orchestrate empowering retreats, creative self-empowerment support groups, and spirit circles. Authentic movement through the soul's sacred dance empowers participants with an honest assessment of life's journey as seen through the heart, mind, and soul of the individual within a group.

Paul W. McCormick, MS, LAC, SAP

Paul McCormick has been in service to people with alcohol and other drug problems since 1985. He completed his graduate studies in Addiction Counseling at National Louis University, Chicago, in 1991. Paul has completed two internships in addictions counseling: The first at Victory Memorial Hospital, in 1990, and the other at Montana Chemical Dependency Center in Butte, Montana, in 2006 After completing his training at MCDC, Paul was awarded his license and opened a private practice at Adult and Child Counseling Service in 2007. He holds the credential of Substance Abuse Professional per U.S. Department of Transportation regulations. Paul was awarded National Certification as an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor in 2014. Mr. McCormick holds a Bachelors in Spanish Literature and a Master of Science in Organizational Behavior. He is currently studying for his Master of Social Work degree.


From 1995 through 2004, Paul served as Executive Director of Beacon Foundation, a non-profit vocational rehabilitation organization serving adults with developmental and other disabilities. From 1987 through 1995 Paul served as Director, Division of Children’s Services in Northeastern Illinois and Southeastern Wisconsin. In1977 through 1987, Paul worked in the Puerto Rican inner city of Chicago, serving adults and children. He served as Case Manager for the Developmental Disabilities Unit, Family Support Unit, and West Town Youth Services. Mr. McCormick supervised one of the first independent living arrangements in the era of de-institutionalization, for adults with serious mental illness and developmental disabilities.


Paul believes that people who suffer from alcohol or drug problems do not choose to cause themselves or their loved one’s harm. He believes that addiction is a disease, a sickness, which, left untreated, will end in serious illness or death. Paul believes in the strengths of the people he serves and encourages them to discover how they can best build on them in recovery. Paul enjoys his family and friends, his cabin in Wolf Creek, fishing, swimming, and all the creatures on earth.


Diane Page, LCSW

Diane has 20 years experience working with adolescents and adults who struggle with mood disorders, PTSD, domestic violence, and dual diagnoses.


Diane calls herself a “late bloomer” because she went back to school full time after her two daughters were grown and in college themselves. She graduated with a B.S. in Rehabilitation and Related Services from Eastern MT College (now MSU-Billings), and then moved to Omaha, NE for two years to earn her MSW.


Much of her experience has been in community mental health centers, but she has also spent some time in Corrections, including the Transition Center in Great Falls, and the WATCH East Program in Glendive.
